#Prezi presentation of Appreciative Inquiry for Community Development #AI

Someone on LinkedIn posted a link to this wonderful Prezi presentation. Although you might not be into community Development, most of the presentation is worth looking. Check it out!

It appears that the author, Lise Palmer, authored other Prezi, on AI and else. Probably worth checking out too!

Well done, Lisa!!

  1. I don’t think that telling ploepe to be happy’ and think positively’ is itself positive. It is anti-relational, unsupportive and transparently manipulative. If a person is unhappy, the positive thing to do is empathise, trace the cause, with them, if they agree, and support them in addressing the issue. Being positive is, at root, good manners: basic respect, then extending the benefit of the doubt that they are, indeed, working to their best, then giving thanks and appreciation, and working together to identify genuine problems.

    • Nicolas Stampf says:

Diego: SF is not about”telling people to be positive”. I agree with you: that doesn’t work and is somewhat disrespectful of them (plus, there’s a risk of throwing them info a double-bind – see Gregory Bateson or Paul Watzlawick and systemic family therapies).

Yet, the person may need an external person to help her see what worked/works in his past and present to regain confidence and build on top of that. That’s the aim of Solution Focus as far as I know.
